What our students say about our schools:

"You don't feel alone here at International. There is someone that always makes you fit in. When you come to the school, you have to speak and practice English in order to communicate with other students who are from all over the world. I also appreciate International because I was able to start taking college courses in sophomore year."

-Luis, Excel Early College Program, IHS at LaGCC

"The teachers here are wonderful. They always make you try to be better and don't give up on you."

-Julissa, 12th Grade, IHS at LaGCC

"In my previous school, it was too big and I was not getting help from the teachers with my English. Here [at Flushing International], I get a lot of attention and support from the teachers, and now I am speaking English well. This school is small and makes you feel safe and the teachers are so nice."

-Ting, 9th Grade, Flushing International High School.

What parents say about our schools:

"The teachers have been instrumental in bringing out the best in my son. I am pleased with the help and continuous encouragement that the teachers give to him. It was important for my son to attend an International and not a regular school with ESL because all of the students in his school are immigrants and learning the English language. In another school, my child probably would have felt at a disadvantage in relation to other students while he was learning the language."

-Yolanda Salazar, Parent of Student at Manhattan International High School

What guidance counselors say about our schools:

"I send kids to Brooklyn International because I know that they are going to blossom as students and as people. When I have kids coming from different situations like wars in their countries, I send them to Brooklyn International because I know they will grow there. I sent a girl from Somalia who was in and out of schools for years, and she had a second grade reading level. I sent her there because it is small and because I knew that she wouldn't get lost in the mix. There is more of an understanding of the specific needs of immigrant kids there. If I would have sent her to a larger school, she would have dropped out within a year or two."

-Middle School Guidance Counselor, PS 61.

"The reputation of our school has spread and many more counselors and parents are calling and applying to get their kids into our school. Many more counselors call us because they know that the school is small, safe and that we help immigrant students go on to college."

-Ken Kastenbaum, Guidance Counselor, Brooklyn International High School

What teachers say about working in our schools:

"Team mentality makes Internationals special. Teachers work together to help the students. We [the teachers] frequently talk to each other about the progress of our students and how we can help them. There is also a great emphasis on having students work together and having the students understand that they are responsible for their learning."

-Julie Kessler, Humanities Teacher, Flushing International High School.

The Chancellor beamed when Fawwaz Saeed, a ninth-grader at International High who recently immigrated from Yemen, said that he had finally found a New York high school where he could do some serious studying. "At my last school, there were a lot of fights. When I woke up in the morning, I didn't want to go to school. Now I want to go to school."
"That's what changing the school system is all about," Klein said enthusiastically.
