Our Program:
The International Approach
Professional Development
Internationals provides multiple ways for faculty to learn and grow within their own schools and across schools.
School-based:
The heart of in-school professional development is the daily collaboration of small teams of teachers and guidance personnel who share best practices, and reflect on what is and is not working with their students through daily informal interactions and weekly (or twice weekly) team meetings to review curriculum, instruction, assessment and student progress. Faculty participate in school-wide committees which oversee major programmatic and organizational areas and provide significant opportunities for faculty learning and growth.
Within our network:
Our teachers participate in professional development activities within our network. Internationals organizes full and part day sessions on curriculum development, and language development addressing questions and organizing teachers to share their experiences and learn from each other both during the school year and in the summer. Teachers collaborate on special curriculum writing projects across schools, which provide further opportunities for growth and learning.
External learning opportunities:
Our faculty members also present their work to external audiences, both on site, and off-site. Planning such presentations, in collaboration with their colleagues, and participating in external conferences, seminars and colloquia provide other opportunities for their development. Finally, teachers are encouraged to participate in external learning opportunities, such as the National Endowment for the Humanities summer institutes, Fulbright teacher exchange programs, and professional conferences and seminars.
