Our Program:
The International Approach
Performance Assessment
Our schools use multiple measures to assess student progress and outcomes. All our schools incorporate performance assessments into their instructional program.
- Students take all required state and city tests.
- Student portfolios are incorporated into classes, as well as presented to committees of teachers, adults from the larger community and peers at important decision points in the student's academic path. Self, peer and teacher evaluations of students' progress are incorporated into this process.
- Students give oral presentations and produce exhibitions of work to demonstrate growth and/or mastery of both English and content.
- Assessment practices engage the school community and are public events.
In recent focus groups, our graduates have spoken about the portfolio process:

"The portfolio process gave us more flexibility to understand and to express ourselves. . .The portfolio and the research paper is really useful for when you go to college. When I went to college, I already knew how to do a research paper and how to make a presentation in front of a room full of people."
