History: Growth and Progress

Timeline

Our history of academic success began with the founding of our first high school in 1985 on the campus of LaGuardia Community College, a collaborative effort between the New York City Department of Education and the City University of New York. During the next nine years, two additional schools were opened in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and to facilitate interschool collaboration and learning, these schools joined together to form the International Schools Partnership in 1995. In 2001, a fourth school, Bronx International High School, was established. When the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation initiated an educational funding project to promote school improvement across the country, they approached the Partnership to recreate its successful model. As a result, Internationals Network for Public Schools emerged in 2004 as a 501( c )3 nonprofit to support existing schools and create additional International High Schools nationwide. To date, as an intermediary working in partnership with local education departments and communities, Internationals now supports ten high schools in the NYC and two in California.
